Eric Hoffman of Cal-Fire Interview April 29th Show
April 30th, 2007 . by Mike KellyI thought Eric Hoffman of Cal-Fire (707-576-2285)was a great interview on Sunday’s show. He thoroughly covered the hazards we all face by living in a primarily “Rural” county like Sonoma. I visited the www.firesafesonoma.org site and it has a terrific pamphlet on fire control which you can download in pdf format. I reccomend it highly! I’m printing out copies and mailing to many clients who have purchased country property. Another web site is: www.fire.ca.gov which will give you more information for making your property “fire-safe”. The realities of a firefight dictate cruel rules. if your property has not been cleared and provides many “ladders” to fuel, the fire boys will make a hard decision to let your home go and save the others. So be fire safe and check these sites out. Here’s some quick information from their site:
“The most effective deterrents to tragic loss of life and property in the event of a wildfire are education and preparation. Recognizing the urgency of fire safety, a group of concerned individuals, comprised of fire protection professionals, representatives of community action groups, homeowners and other stakeholders formed a non-profit group 501(c)(3) called Fire Safe Sonoma.
The primary purposes of this group are to educate, exchange information, foster fire prevention and fire safety practices, promote vegetation reduction projects, obtain grants, support local fire agency efforts and involve everyone who works, lives or plays in our rural areas.
What you can do now…..
- Learn about fire safety practices and share with your neighbors
- Design and maintain a defensible space around your home and adjacent roads
- Use fire resistant native trees and shrubs
- Post your address clearly and visibily for emergency responders
- Support your local fire department
- Come to Fire Safe Sonoma meetings and get involved.
If you have information regarding a suspicious fire please call the Anonymous CDF Arson Hotline at 1-800-468-4408″
