NFL PICKS WEEK 3
September 21st, 2007 . by JoetheSportsGuyLAST WEEK 12-4 75%
SEASON 26-6 81.3%
OVERVIEW WEEK 2: Last weeks picks I said “My safest prediction is that I will have more wrong by the start of the afternoon games then I did all of Week 1.” More…That turned out to be right…but then nailed all the afternoon and the Sunday Night game before missing the Monday Night Game. Do I get extra credit for saying I’d miss at least three games by 1 pm and still go 12-4 overall? By the way I am challenging myself against the Yahoo Experts and users. They have five experts picking games…the best after two weeks is Mike Silver at 23-9 (so who is the expert anyway?). The users consensus is 21-11. 68% of those user picked the Rams over the Niners.
Enough of the chest beating….
SAN FRANCISCO (2-0) AT PITTSBURGH (2-0)…This is one of two matchups featuring undefeated teams. After hearing about how conservative their offense is from the couch potatoes of the world: that maybe a good strategy for the Niners in this game. The Steelers have the 2nd best resume of the 2-0 teams with only New England looking better. The Steelers are 1st in the NFL in points allowed and 3rd in Yards allowed. The Niners are at the opposite end on offense. If the Niners are to win this game their defense will have to win it. Steelers are a 9 point favorite which sounds about right to me.
CLEVELAND (1-1) AT OAKLAND (0-2)….While the Raiders games have had the same personality to them, the Browns have been about as opposite as you can be. Week 1 they lost to Pittsburgh 34-7 with barely 200 yards of total offense. Week 2 they beat Cincinnati 51-45 with over 550. The Raiders have led in the 4th quarter of both of their games and couldn’t finish it off. This time they will.
DETROIT (2-0) AT PHILADELPHIA (0-2)…This is one of three games featuring winless vs. undefeated. You would of thought the roles would be reversed two weeks ago. Panic will really set in in Philly if they lose this one. Start panicking.
MIAMI (0-2) AT JETS (0-2)…..This is the only matchup of winless teams and unless they fight out through an overtime and tie a AFC East team besides New England gets a win. The tie thing might be the best pick. My coin flip landed on the Jets.
BUFFALO (0-2) AT NEW ENGLAND (2-0)….Waiting to see a chink in New England’s armor. Will have to wait at least another week, at least.
ARIZONA (1-1) AT BALTIMORE (1-1)…One of three NFC West-AFC North matchups this week. Two of two wins for the AFC North.
ST. LOUIS (0-2) AT TAMPA BAY (1-1)…The Rams are the only winless team to lose both games at home. The Rams are to good of a team to go 0-3, aren’t they?
INDIANAPOLIS (2-0) AT HOUSTON (2-0)…Everything here points to a Houston win. At home, excited crowd, Colts coming off a tough road division win. So why am I taking the Colts?
SAN DIEGO (1-1) AT GREEN BAY (2-0)…This is a total gut feeling. If your looking for reasons why the best I can give is that I’m not as sold on the Chargers as the rest of the NFL world seems to be.
MINNESOTA (1-1) AT KANSAS CITY (0-2)…The Vikings are smarting from the overtime loss to Detroit last week. The Chiefs are on my short list as one of the worse teams in the NFL.
NY GIANTS (0-2) AT WASHINGTON (2-0)….The Redskins being 2-0 has me a little leery about being to excited about a 2-0 team but the Giants aren’t a very good football team.
JACKSONVILLE (1-1) AT DENVER (2-0)…..The Broncos have dominated in their first two games statistically and still needed heroics at the end to get both games. Well whatever works…and it should work again this week.
CINCINNATI (1-1) AT SEATTLE (1-1)…This is matchup No. 3 between the AFC North and NFC West, the only one with the NFC West hosting. The Bengals resembles the Dan Fouts led Chargers. Will go for 3 of 3 for the AFC North, although this might be more of a hope then any clear cut feeling.
CAROLINA (1-1) AT ATLANTA (0-2)…Three touchdowns have been scored this season with Atlanta’s offense on the field. That’s a low number for two games, but when you add two of them were scored by the defense…well trouble. Carolina should rebound after forgettable performance last week vs. Houston.
DALLAS (2-0) AT CHICAGO (1-1) SUNDAY NIGHT GAME….What a matchup between an offense that has been unstoppable and a defense who stops plus an offense that can’t move vs. a defense that can’t stop. This might be an interesting game for Niner fans to watch, the Niners are acting like they want to pattern themselves after the Bears. With that in mind..why not the Bears.
TENNESSEE (1-1) AT NEW ORLEANS (0-2) MONDAY NIGHT GAME…Where is the team that missed by one quarter of going to the Super Bowl last season? No team has been outscored as bad as the Saints after two weeks. Tennessee just missed against the Colts last week. They will be out to make a statement for the whole world to see.
