October 4th, 2007 . by JoetheSportsGuy

League races enter Week No. 2…

NORTH BAY LEAGUE:

ALL GAMES FRIDAY NIGHT:

ELSIE ALLEN (0-4, 0-1) AT CARDINAL NEWMAN (2-1-1, 1-0)…Cardinal Newman’s 29-10 win over Rancho Cotate last week was their lowest scoring game of the season. In fact the combined 39 points were scored by at least one team in two of their first three games, the only game that a team didn’t reach that mark was the season opening 35-35 tie with Central Catholic. The 29 points is the lowest Cardinal Newman has scored this season…and is still one point more then what Elsie Allen has scored the whole season.

PINER (1-3, 0-1) AT MONTGOMERY (2-1-1, 1-0)…Piner after their historic comeback win in their opener vs. Analy has lost three straight scoring 7 points in each game. Montgomery scored more points in their win over Elsie Allen then they did in their first three games combined. On the surface the two above favorites are probably thinking more about their showdown which is next week at Montgomery. If either of the favorites lose it will be the upset of the year that won’t be beat.

MARIA CARRILLO (1-3. 1-0) AT SANTA ROSA (4-0, 1-0)…Only NBL game between teams that both won their league opener. It was Maria Carrillo first win of the season and they too scored more points in the win over Piner then they had their first three games. Santa Rosa won a gut check win in Ukiah and has five of their last six games at home.

RANCHO COTATE (2-2, 0-1) AT UKIAH (1-2-1, 0-1)…Only NBL game between two teams that both lost their league opener. Huge game on so many fronts. Loser basically out of the NBL race before it gets started…also could have NCS Playoff implications. Ukiah needs to shake off last weeks tough loss to Santa Rosa. Rancho Cotate’s road show had them opening league play at Cardinal Newman. Rancho Cotate hasn’t won a game in Ukiah since 2001. This is a regularly scheduled road game for Rancho Cotate.

SONOMA COUNTY LEAGUE PREVIEW: ALL GAMES FRIDAY NIGHT: ANALY (2-2, 1-0) AT CASA GRANDE (3-0-1, 1-0)…Only SCL match up between teams that won their league opener last week. Interesting match up between Analy offense and Casa Grande Defense. Analy is averaging nearly 40 points a game…Casa Grande has given up 17 the whole season…all of them in their tie with Montgomery. Both coming off impressive victories outscoring their opponents 65-0 in Rivalry games. Analy’s David Glass leads the county in yards passing (1,123) and touchdown passes (11). SONOMA (2-1-1, 0-1) AT EL MOLINO (2-2, 0-1)…Both coming off disappoint league openers. Sonoma got enough offensive numbers against Healdsburg in all areas except where it counts the most…the scoreboard. El Molino slapped back to reality with the 34-0 loss to Analy.WINDSOR (2-2, 0-0) AT HEALDSBURG (4-0,1-0)…Windsor had the league bye last week and also had the most painful loss. They let a 20-3 halftime lead get away…losing to Redwood 21-20 the winning score..a 2 point conversion…coming with 41 seconds left. A win here might be considered a season savor. Healdsburg shut some critics up with their 15-0 win at Sonoma. SACRED HEART CATHEDRAL OF SAN FRANCISCO(3-2) AT PETALUMA (2-2, 0-1)…Petaluma’s turn for the league bye as they try to turn things around. After a 2-0 start they have been outscored the last two weeks 72-21. Sacred Heart Cathedral is in the same boat as Petaluma…losing two in a row after a 3-0 start. This is the first of three games Sacred heart Cathedral has against Sonoma County League teams. They end up the season against Sonoma and Casa Grande.
