COLLEGE RECAP…SCORING SCORING AND MORE SCORING WITH A BUNCH OF LATERIALS THROWN IN
October 30th, 2007 . by JoetheSportsGuyThis is not a week to complain about the BCS because nothing out of the ordinary happened to change anything at the top of things. Actually quite calm compared to way the season has been going…and I promise I will only mention Cal once in passing.
ROUT OF THE WEEK…They are starting to get harder to find. But how about Missouri State 63 Indiana State 7. Very nice of Missouri State to not score in the fourth quarter…
HONORABLE MENTION…ARKANSAS 58 FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL 10..Drops Florida International record to 0-8. Included in their losses, 59-0 to Penn State, 55-3 to Kansas and 47-6 to that power Middle Tennessee. Shame on Arkansas for having them on the schedule..
As for the awards..
NO. 3…59-52…That was the final in two games (and wasn’t even the highest scoring game of the week..See No. 2)…Delaware beat Navy and Samford beat Tennessee Tech and neither of the two games went into Overtime. Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco went 30-41 for 434 yards and 4 touchdowns. He didn’t throw an interception or was he sacked by that tough Navy defense. Hopefully the ships the Navy have are a better defense then the football team is. In the Samford-Tennessee Tech game the two quarterbacks combined for 885 yards in passing offense. Maybe Navy played on the defensive side of the ball against both of those teams too.
NO.2…WEBER ST 73 PORTLAND STATE 68…This game no overtime either. The highest scoring college game on record. It was only 7-3 after one quarter. The two teams combined for 1,189 yards in total offense. Freshman quarterback Drew Hubel making his first start went 35-56 for 485 yards and NINE touchdown passes and he lost. Weber State scored 35 points in the 2nd quarter and at halftime had 443 yards of total offense, which was 10 more yards then they had for any WHOLE game this season.
NO. 1…FOX SPORTSNET….For whatever reason ABC and the other big boys of the College Football Televising Community ignored the Pac 10. So Fox Sportsnet said okay we’ll take them. What they got was No. 4 Oregon and No. 5 Arizona State beating USC and Cal in the two biggest games of this Saturday.
HONORABLE MENTION NO. 2…Taking Cal-Stanford band play to a step higher (without the band). Trinity University used a 15 lateral play to beat Millsap 28-24. Riley Curry scored the winning touchdown after touching the ball four times on the final play that lasted 62 seconds.
