December 5th, 2007 . by JoetheSportsGuyCARDINAL NEWMAN (11-1-1) VS SAN RAMON VALLEY (11-1-1)
SATURDAY AFTERNOON 3:45 PM AT THE MACAFEE COLISEUM IN OAKLAND
The North Coast Section Redwood Empire and East Bay Champions meet for the second season in a row. Cardinal Newman won last years title beating Hayward 28-22. Cardinal Newman is looking for their third straight North Coast Section Championship and has a ten game North Coast Section Playoff game winning streak. This is the 8th straight season San Ramon Valley has been in the North Coast Section Playoffs. They won their only Championship in 2004. Neither team has had much of a sweat getting to the title game. Both teams closes games were last week, Cardinal Newman’s a 26-7 win over Rancho Cotate. San Ramon Valley beat Pinole Valley 42-7. Cardinal Newman’s blemish on their season was in the first two weeks, a 35-35 tie with Central Catholic and a 48-28 loss to Del Oro. San Ramon Valley stretched theirs out…tieing Washington of Fremont in Week 3, also 35-35 and losing to Monte Vista in their last regular season game 20-14 a game that cost them sole possession of the East Bay League. They ended tied with California of San Ramon, a team they beat 10-9 and the team that meets DeLaSalle in the second game of the doubleheader Saturday at the Coliseum for the 4A championship. Both teams have scored an average of over 35 points a game on the season…which is less points then either of them gave up in their three playoff games combined.
San Ramon Valley is a 14 point favorite.
ONE OTHER NOTE…The 2A Championship Game between Las Lomas and Novato is being played at Santa Rosa High School Friday Night at 7pm. Las Lomas is 13-0, Novato is 12-0. Las Lomas is a four point favorite.
