NFL PICKS…WEEK 16

December 20th, 2007 . by JoetheSportsGuy

With two weeks to go in the regular season lets see where we have came from and where things are going and give a grade to the preseason picks.  This could get ugly.

NFC WEST:  Took the Niners by default.  Five point penalty for the Niner picks, but a two point bonus for the default.  Seattle will be the only team in the NFC West that is over .500 for the season.   With their schedule they should finish with a better then they are 11-5 mark.  They have one win over a team over .500 and that was wayyyy back in Week 1 vs. Tampa Bay, and that won’t change if they win their last two games.   The only potential first round matchup they have a chance against is the Giants.  Overall score for the NFC West….minus 3

NFC NORTH:  Was one of many that took the Packers.  Okay took the Bears.  Shame on me.  Packers are my favorite to go to the Super Bowl from the NFC and the best chance at beating New England should they get their themselves.   Since the Bears made such a good run score for the NFC North  minus 5.

NFC SOUTH:  Didn’t I say this could get ugly.  Took the Saints.  I don’t feel so bad about this one because no one saw Tampa Bay coming.
minus 2 for the Saint pick.  Besides the Saints still have a chance at a wildcard spot..barely.

NFC EAST:  Figures I’d get this one right.  Took Dallas.  Enough said except wouldn’t be surprised that Dallas doesn’t win a playoff game.
NFC East score plus 5.
WILDCARD PICKS:  Seattle and St. Louis.   ten point penalty.

NFC Total Score:  minus 15.  Do I know my football or what?

AFC WEST:  This is better.  Remind you this quote from the preview:  San Diego is the only team in the division that has the same quarterback they started last year with.  Add to it they have so much talent that even Norv Turner can’t mess this one up…although at times he will try. Ding Ding Ding Ding.  Chargers will lose their first playoff game.   Plus 10 for calling this.

AFC NORTH:  Call this the best division in football and took the Bengals.  Take back those 10 points for being wrong on both.

AFC SOUTH:  Here is your best division.   Took Jacksonville thinking the Colts would have a Super Bowl hangover.  That didn’t happen but it was a close battle.   Not going to penalize myself to much for this.   Minus 1.  Jacksonville and the Colts best hope of derailing the Pats Super Bowl machine.

AFC EAST:  Nailed this one.  Who didn’t.  Not going to give myself to much for this.  Plus 1

WILDCARD:  Indianapolis and Pittsburgh.   One will win their division and the other the jury still out.  Close enough.  Plus 3

AFC TOTAL SCORE:  Plus 3.

SUPER BOWL PICK:  Not going to tell you, but was wrong on both.

SUPER BOWL PICKS NOW:
HORROR BOWL:  NEW ENGLAND VS. DALLAS
HOPING BOWL:   INDIANAPOLIS VS. GREEN BAY
THINK IT WILL BE:  NEW ENGLAND VS. GREEN BAY
AND THE WINNER IS:  GREEN BAY (MARK IT DOWN)

Now moving on to the picks:
LAST WEEK:
  10-  6   62.5%
SEASON:       140-84   62.5% (Behind Yahoo’s best by 5)

THURSDAY NIGHT:
PITTSBURGH (9-5)
AT ST. LOUIS (3-11)…The NFL Network gets another winner.  After losing two in a row did the Steelers need this schedule break or what?
SATURDAY NIGHT:
DALLAS (12-2)
AT CAROLINA (6-8)…Dallas is going to lose again before the playoffs gaurenteed.   Not this one though.

SUNDAY’S PLATE:
OAKLAND (4-10) AT JACKSONVILLE (10-4)…If they come motivated these last two weeks Jacksonville will be a 12-4 wild card team.  Wouldn’t want to play them in Round 1…are you listening San Diego?

PHILADELPHIA (6-8) AT NEW ORLEANS (7-7)…The Eagles will smile during the post season thinking about their win over Dallas.  This game will help the smile to as they eliminate the Saints from playoff contention.

KANSAS CITY (4-10) AT DETROIT (6-8)…At one time the Chiefs were 4-3.  At one time the Lions were 6-2.  Aww memories.  This game deserves to be on the NFL Network.  Oh yeah I have to pick this one.  I’m still thinking.   Okay the Lions..I guess.

CLEVELAND (9-5) AT CINCINNATI (5-9)…Cleveland is the second biggest surprise of this season.  A win here cinches a playoff spot for them.   They need help to win the AFC North which they probably won’t get.  But with Cleveland and Jacksonville in the playoffs as wild card, they will both be better then the division champs they will meet in Round 1.

GREEN BAY (12-2) AT CHICAGO (5-9)…The Packers are the leagues No. 1 surprise.   What a nice surprise it is to.  Bears surprised to..the other way.  Packers continue to roll to the Super Bowl.

NY GIANTS (9-5) AT BUFFALO (7-7)…There must be alot of volunteers that want to play the Giants towards the end of the season.   Hats off to Buffalo after a 1-4 start to make something out of their season.  Will make Giants fans swet for that playoff spot.

HOUSTON (7-7) AT INDIANAPOLIS (12-2)…Houston is in last place in the division the Colts have won.   Colts have nothing to play for while Houston looking for their first ever .500 season.  UPSET SPECIAL

ATLANTA (3-11) AT ARIZONA (6-8)…Arizona still  has a chance at .500.  Atlanta just wants to go on vacation.  Arizona will be wondering why they couldn’t beat the Niners when all is said and done.

TAMPA BAY (9-5) AT SAN FRANCISCO (4-10)….Tampa Bay another team that has nothing to play for until playoff time.  The Niners trying to end their season with their head up high.  Well maybe not high…but UPSET SPECIAL NO. 2

BALTIMORE (4-10) AT SEATTLE (9-5)….Seattle has nothing to play for either except getting their pride back after a dreadful loss to Carolina.   They will pick on a dreadful Baltimore team.

MIAMI (1-13) AT NEW ENGLAND (14-0)…Miami is celebrating their win.  Why bother getting ready for this game anyway.

NY JETS (3-11) AT TENNESSEE (8-6)…Do or die for Tennessee…and even a do might not be good enough.  They will do here though.

WASHINGTON (7-7) AT MINNESOTA (8-6)…SUNDAY NIGHT…Playoff type game.  Vikings were 3-6.  Nice turnaround continues.

DENVER (6-8) AT SAN DIEGO (9-5)…MONDAY NIGHT…ESPN has to be thrilled with this one.  Chargers four game winning streak is more of a break of the schedule then how good they have become.   Three of the wins have been over Baltimore, Detroit and Kansas City.   The shortest losing streak of those three teams is six.  Aw what the heck.  UPSET SPECIAL NO. 3
