NFL PICKS….CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND…

January 18th, 2008 . by JoetheSportsGuy

That praying you might be hearing from FOX Headquarters is that if anything happens this Sunday…New England can’t lose.   With all the records on the field New England is shattering this season…one of the records off the field is TV Ratings.   FOX, who is broadcasting the Super Bowl,  must be drooling over how much attention a Super Bowl with New England in it.   The other game, the one FOX has Sunday they can’t really lose on.  Its either the wonderful story about Brett Favre, who people said should of retired by now…or the biggest market in the country.    But they need New England.
As for New England’s opponent,  apologizes all around.  Rip them pretty well throughout the season..yet here they are.    Despite ripping them, do I get credit for picking them to go to the Super Bowl at the beginning of the season.  Maybe not.
As for last week…looked like a genius on Saturday…and a dummy on Sunday…
LAST WEEK:   4-4…….2-2 vs. the Spread…..2-2 Outright….4-0 on Saturday…0-4 on Sunday.
PLAYOFFS:     7-9…….3-5 vs. the Spread…..4-4 Outright..

AS FOR SUNDAY:
AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME….SAN DIEGO (13-5) AT NEW ENGLAND -13 1/2(17-0) ….CBS AT HIGH NOON…
When I hear some of the experts say what San Diego has to do to win is win the turnover war I wonder how do you win a turnover war against a team that doesn’t commit turnovers.  Myself if I was coaching New England I would throw out “the book”.  “The Book” which says to punt on 4th and 5 from midfield.  It doesn’t matter where New England gets the ball, if they are going to score they are going to score.  Also I would be trying onside kicks on EVERY KICKOFF.   Again it doesn’t matter where New England has the ball, if they are going to score, they are going to score.   You have a better chance of stealing possessions that way, than you do hoping for a Tom Brady interception.  When New England has struggled this season, and they haven’t much,  the scores have been 31-28 like, not 10-7.  For the Chargers to win they will need to score 40.  They are so beat up that one of several reason’s to say its not going to happen.  New England easily….and FOX will be happy.

NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME…NY GIANTS (12-6) AT GREEN BAY- 7 (14-3)….FOX AT 3:30 PM…Part of me is a little disappointed that the Cowboys whimped out and lost last week.   I was ready to take the Packers even if they had to go to Dallas to win.  Always thought the Packers are the best team in the NFC.  That disappointment is wiped away by the forecast of a 4 degree kickoff in Green Bay.  Green Bay is what’s left of the “old” NFL.   The Giants do put a fear in me.   They seemed to be the only team that had the Niners number during the Niners decade of the 80’s.  What that has to do with Sunday…NOTHING.   The Giants are capable of the upset…but I’m going with my heart….Packers to win…and cover the spread….
