NFL PICK AND PANS–WEEK 5
October 3rd, 2008 . by JoetheSportsGuyNow that the Raider soap is over, at least the coaching drama part of it is, we can move on with our lives. Although you have a feeling as long as Al Davis is around…the Soap is only a newsbeat away. That Press Conference just adds to the evidence that the Raiders will not be much of a factor (except for a big laugh now and then) until Davis is gone…and we all know when that will be.
We are at the quarter pole of the NFL Season and some thoughts:
The New York Giants are the most underappreciated Super Bowl champion maybe ever…surprising since they are from New York. The loud whispers last week was that the Cowboys could go undefeated. This just in…they won’t and the Giants are the last undefeated team in the NFC East-thank you very much.
How tough that division is?…Philadelphia 2-2, last place. 2-2 is good enough to be in First Place in the NFC West and the NFC North.
You could of gotten big money predicting the Buffalo and Tennessee would be the last two undefeated teams in the AFC…Heck could of gotten good money predicting the Giants are the last undefeated team in the NFC.
The Dolphins of 72 will be able to pop their champagne on November 9th….
Miami’s only win is New England’s only loss.
Kansas City’s only win is Denver’s only loss.
San Diego’s two losses are by a combined three points…29 seconds..and a bad call…
New Orleans two losses are by a combined seven points…
New Orleans and Atlanta are both 2-2 and tied for last place in the NFC South…
Dallas won’t go undefeated..
It took one Dallas loss to hear from Terrell Owens
JT O’ Sullivan shows signs that he could be good…but also shows signs of why he hasn’t started anywhere else
The Niners Defense has been a big disappointment
Despite either of those since the winner of the NFC West could finish under .500 the Niners will keep our interest most of the season
That’s not the only thing that has been a big disappointment….
LAST WEEK: 7-6 (and feel lucky to get that)
SEASON: 33-27 55.0%….and actually gained ground on last season (39-23 62.9%)
BYE WEEK FOR: NY JETS, OAKLAND, ST. LOUIS AT CLEVELAND (COMBINED RECORD 4-12, so they need the byes)
EARLY GAMES….
CHICAGO (2-2) AT DETROIT (0-4)….UPSET ALERT!!!! Wait a minute this is the Lions…Never mind..
PICK: CHICAGO
SAN DIEGO (2-2) AT MIAMI (1-2)…..Miami has had two weeks to try to convince everyone that the win over New England wasn’t a mirage…This week won’t help them prove that..
PICK: SAN DIEGO
ATLANTA (2-2) AT GREEN BAY (2-2)…A Green Bay Quarterback who is hurt and starting anyway. Sounds familiar. So will the results of this game.
PICK: GREEN BAY
SEATTLE (1-2) AT NY GIANTS (3-0)…The Giants continue to “quietly” pluck along
PICK: NY GIANTS
TENNESSEE (4-0) AT BALTIMORE (2-1)…Baltimore wins are over Cleveland and Cincinnati who has one win between them (that’s because they played each other)….
PICK: TENNESSEE
INDIANAPOLIS (1-2) AT HOUSTON (0-3)….The Colts have had a week to try to right their ship…The Texans play their first home game of the season..
PICK: HOUSTON
KANSAS CITY (1-3) AT CAROLINA (3-1)…You like the card for the week…like your chances of a good week…and then…Kansas City 33 Denver 19…
PICK: CAROLINA
WASHINGTON (3-1) AT PHILADELPHIA (2-2)…No matter the match up..when two NFC East teams meet it is always in competition for the game of the week. Philadelphia broke an NFC East rule: don’t lose to a team outside their division..
PICK: PHILADELPHIA
AFTERNOON GAMES
TAMPA BAY (3-1) AT DENVER (3-1)…Super Bowl Preview???…Still not sold on Tampa Bay, but I can’t tell you why..
PICK: DENVER
CINCINNATI (0-4) AT DALLAS (3-1)…The best battle of mouths in the NFL featuring Ocho Cinco and Terrell Owens…To bad the battle between the football teams isn’t nearly as appealing…
PICK: DALLAS
BUFFALO (4-0) AT ARIZONA (2-2)….Arizona is killing me. 1-3 picking their games, including their two losses.
PICK: BUFFALO
NEW ENGLAND (2-1) AT SAN FRANCISCO (2-2)….New England has been sitting around two weeks getting angrier and angrier about their game vs. Miami. Plus Belichick vs. Nolan…
PICK: NEW ENGLAND
SUNDAY NIGHT
PITTSBURGH (3-1) AT JACKSONVILLE (2-2)….The winning points in all of Jacksonville games have been scored with five minutes to go, their two wins with four seconds to go or later.
PICK: JACKSONVILLE
MONDAY NIGHT
MINNESOTA (1-3) AT NEW ORLEANS (2-2)…The Saints looked like the Super Bowl contender I predicted them to be last week. Why did they have to show that team against the Niners though?
PICK: NEW ORLEANS
