NFL PREVIEW:
FIRST THE NINERS: The Niners have become the fashionable pick to take the NFC West. Is it because everyone thinks they are so improved, or is it because the NFC West doesn’t have that much to offer as far as a clear cut choice. I would pick the latter. 9-7 might win the NFC West. No team in the division is dominate, and no team (outside Arizona when they are not playing the Niners) is terrible.
So where does the leave the Niners. Contender for a playoff berth, but again anyone in the NFC West could be.

THE FOOTBALL SEASON BEGINS
Some call this the best time of the year, others not so best, depending on your perspective on things. So with weather feeling more like summer and the dog-days of baseball season, we begin anew the football season. But if you’re me, it’s not really football season until Green Bay plays on a truly frozen tundra and the Chicago Bears slip and slide in a blizzard. But for now—let the games begin!
As the season goes on we will have some tidbits…like… Read the rest of this entry »

My mother grew up on Lombard Street in San Francisco. 2nd generation Sicilian in NorthBeach. She actually “skated” down Lombard street much to my grandfather’s dismay! She played baseball with the DiMaggio brothers. Joe, Dom and he other guy. She learned to save money at an early age as the founder of The Bank of Italy-later Bank of America- would come into her classroom and take the students pennies and nickels and enter them into each of the students savings books! We stay at Bonanza King Resort up on Coffee Creek in Trinity Count every year. They have these great cabins along Coffee Creek. We stay in the cabin named “Fawn” which has this screened in “Sleeping porch” and these itty-bitty, metal cots meant for kids but my wife and I sleep out side as the creek is nearby. If you have not been serenaded to sleep by a free flowing creek you ain’t been sleeping right! Check out their website and tell them I sent you!! www.bonanzakingresort.com/

You Say Tomato…
Making the Most of the Summer Harvest
By Kirk Leins
For tomato lovers everywhere, the summer months mark the time of year when this wonderful fruit is at its absolute tastiest. Whether a summertime tomato is harvested from a backyard garden or purchased from a quality purveyor, it is simply one of the finest fresh ingredients available to nearly every home chef.
What is a Tomato?
Scientifically speaking, a tomato is a fruit and not a vegetable. This is because a true fruit is developed from the ovary in the base of the plant’s flower and contains the edible seeds of the plant. Carrots, broccoli, and lettuce develop differently as they do not have seeds within the part we eat and are therefore considered vegetables. Read the rest of this entry »
